Augratin Potatoes for Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving 2009. We are invited to the home of our son-in-laws parents for Thanksgiving dinner. I am taking a fruit salad. On the spur of the moment, I decided that I wanted to cook something in the solar oven to take. But what?
I grab two boxes of Betty Crocker Augratin Potatoes. Dumped them into the pan, added the ingredients called for on the box — some water (didn’t skimp because the potatoes need to rehydrate), some milk, some butter, and the cheese packet. Started the potatoes at 9:40 a.m.
Because of the time of the year, we are using the cooker in the upright position and we added the solar panels. The temperature in the oven rose to about 300 degrees. We took the potatoes out at 1:40 p.m. – 4 hours – just in time to go to dinner at 2:00
The potatoes were delicious. The potatoes were tender, and the water/milk/cheese had cooked down to a nice sauce. Fooled my son-in-law into thinking they were from scratch. The pan came home empty.

Yes, those potatoes were delicious. Everyone at my table were talking about how good they were!
